Few investigations have been conducted regarding exposure to whole body vibration (WBV) for ice breaker crews. Previous studies have focused on other types of vessels, but not icebreakers
Ice radar systems were used during OATRC 2015 to measure the thickness of the surrounding ice. The ability to calculate the thickness of the ice is very important for researchers who makes predictions about the behaviour of the ice in real time
The two Swedish icebreakers Oden and Frej were used as research platforms during OATRC 2015 to study sea ice in the Arctic and its effects on floating structures.
Data gathered during OATRC 2015 will be used to check how well our methods for estimating ice drift and ice concentration from satellite data are working. During the expedition we also assessed the ways in which the icebreaker crews are using satellite data at present, and what information they would like to obtain from satellite data in the future.
