During summer 2012, a research group conducted an expedition to Svalbard to study the development of mountain chains in the Arctic region.
The project Early Neoproterozoic Orogeny in the Arctic (NOA) studied the development of mountain chains in the Arctic regions during the Neoproterozoic era, i.e. 1,000–542 million years ago. The NOA-Svalbard expedition enabled researchers to obtain a clearer picture of how the region’s natural resources have arisen and developed, contributing to our understanding of how the areas of tectonic subsidence looked before the Paleozoic orogeny.
