The 2004 expedition concentrated on the geology in the vicinity to the northwest of the Kara Strait. In this area, the fold axes in southernmost exposures of the Yuzhnonovozemelskaya Anticline plunge gently northwestwards and late Neoproterozoic rocks are exposed in the core of the major fold.
